The Chileno Valley Newt Brigade has hired two political consultants to help us obtain 1.2 million dollars in funding from the County of Marin. This funding would pay for Phase Two of our long-term three-part plan to build safe crossings under Chileno Valley Road near Laguna Lake. We plan to hire the same engineering company we hired for the Phase One feasibility study to get to 65% completion of the plan, plus complete the CEQA requirements (California Environmental Quality Act).
This opportunity has come up because the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) is required to review their capital outlay every six years. This is our opportunity to interest them in funding our project.
To learn how you can help, please meet with our consultants via Zoom either:
— Wednesday, January 28th at 5 PM (add meeting to your calendar)
… or …
— Thursday, January 29th at 7 PM (add meeting to your calendar)
Zoom link for both meetings: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8842556087?pwd=TFVtd1preWFZbWt1T0JYTDdTVC9rZz09
Our campaign will include writing letters to the TAM Board and its members, attending meetings with the Board members, and attending and/or speaking at the TAM meeting on February 26th at 6 PM. The TAM Board meeting will be held at the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, 1600 Los Gamos Drive, Room 335, San Rafael
Please note: this is VERY IMPORTANT for the newts! Once we build safe crossings on Chileno Valley Road, the reptiles and amphibians will have permanent protection and our solution will serve as a model for others worldwide.
But for right now, we need all of you to show up to the zoom kick-off meetings next week. Please attend ONE of these organizational meetings listed above, so we can get off on the right foot, and so that you will know what you can do.
